Welcome to The Three Cent Pup
I've taken the liberty of coming up with a name for our comics/sketch group and for this blog, but neither of those are set in stone. As the group evolves, we can change either or both of them if we want. A friend recently loaned me a book about the history of Winston-Salem and the Reynolds family called The Gilded Leaf and when I read in it about The Three Cent Pup I thought it was a hilarious name, so I've used it. I've purchased the domain name www.cartoonists.ws and in 48-72 hours it should begin pointing to this blog.
I've hopefully got the settings on this blog set so that you don't have to be a member to post comments (hopefully we won't get a ton of comment spam)...but you'll likely have to be a member to make a new post, so if you want to be a member, just email me and I'll send an invite out to your email address. When/if there're more members of the blog than just me, I'll put the "members" section back on the site, but it looked kinda silly with just me on it. When we've got some artwork to post, we can figure out how to do that--most likely we can just set up a gallery on Flickr and link to it.
Here's the current roster of folks who've expressed interest in the group (sorry if I don't know some last names):
Mandy Marxen
Kate Weigand
(& Holden?)
Antonina Whaples
(& Claire Bonin?)
Adam Afifi
Adam Casey
Chad
Thomas Whaples
Ben Towle
So that's about ten people right now. I've got a few more folks I'm going to contact before I secure us a place for our first meeting...and if y'all know anyone else who wants in, please let me know.
In the meantime, feel free to introduce yourselves...
Oh, yeah...also: If you have a personal homepage, or any other link related to Winston-Salem and/or art, or some other thing you're involved in that you think should be added to the "links" area on the right, either let me know in a comment or email.

Three cheers for the three cent pup!
Introduce ourselves, you say?
Hi, I'm Thomas Whaples, yclept Fennec online (FennecFoxen, in any forums where just plain 'Fennec' is already taken). I'm presently an overextended college student at Wake Forest University. About two years ago, I realized that art was actually something that I could do, with practice, and a few months later I launched a small webcomic, in order to practice. I'm now trying to make art my second major.
Howdy all-
Adam Casey here, graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and aspiring funny book maker.
Oooh, this is so great! I love it.
I'm Mandy, I'm in my early 30's and I work as a Marketing Manager for a mirror manufacturer in North Wilkesboro. I've collected comics since I was 18, and I've always drawn. I was an art major (as my second major like you Thomas) at UNC-Chapel Hill, and did some editorial cartoons & illustrations for The Daily Tarheel, but have only considered actually doing my own comics recently.
I met Ben and he really inspired me to do it. Now if I only had more time....But I have to realize that it's important to me and work at doing it. I hope this group can help motivate me to practice more.
Also...I've heard back from Chad (mentioned on the initial list) and he's definitely onboard. I'm thinking maybe he's about my age (an old geezer, that is)...and he's worked as an inker for Dark Horse Comics and (I think) Marvel as well. I'm taking the liberty of introducing him, since he contacted me pretty quickly, but hasn't posted anything here yet...
